Dr. Ian Bussey is an Anne Arundel County, Maryland native where he continues to live with his family. He completed his premed studies and earned his undergraduate degree from The George Washington University while serving as a professional firefighter and paramedic with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Before graduating from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, he completed an additional year of clinical research in surgery.
He went on to complete his residency in general surgery, followed by fellowship training in complex hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction at the prestigious and highly competitive training program under Dr. Igor Belyansky at Luminis Health. He has co-authored several peer reviewed research studies and book chapters and has presented his work at numerous national surgical conferences. His clinical practice spans the full spectrum of general surgery, with a focus on minimally invasive and robotic techniques, as well as complex hernia and abdominal wall repair. Dr. Bussey is focused on delivering excellent patient centric care with a personalized approach. In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Bussey continues to serve the local community as an EMS Physician and Assistant Medical Director for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
