Arrhythmia
A healthy heart beats with a steady rhythm to pump 2,000 gallons of blood through your body every day. We can identify the cause of an arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) and treat it before it turns into something more serious. What Is Arrhythmia?Arrhythmia means there's a problem with the rate or rhythm of your heartbeat. Your heart might beat too fast or slow, or it might skip beats.Your body's electrical system regulates your heartbeat. But sometimes things like aging, high blood pressure or clogged arteries cause a short circuit in your electrical system. Some arrhythmias are harmless, but others may be life-threatening if your brain and organs don't get enough blood.Arrhythmias happen for many reasons. We can get to the root of the problem and fix it so an arrhythmia doesn't harm your heart or health.

Spine Surgery
From complex traumatic spine injuries to herniated disks, we have the surgical expertise to help end your back, neck and radiating pain.Common Reasons for Spine SurgeryMost back, neck and radiating pain can be treated without surgery. But when debilitating pain becomes a part of your daily life, our spine care experts can help you find relief. We can tell when you're a good candidate for spine surgery. Plus, we're experts at judging which type of surgery is likely to provide the best results in your individual situation.Conditions requiring spinal surgery may include:Arthritis/degenerative disc disease. As we get older, the cushion-like discs that separate the bones in our spine become flatter and more brittle. This can allow the bones to make slight, abnormal movements, irritating surrounding muscles, joints and nerves.Instability/spondylolisthesis. In this condition, one of the bones in your spine — called a vertebra — slides forward, out of its normal position.Fractures and trauma to the spine.Ruptured or herniated disc. The discs that separate the bones of our spine are a bit like jelly doughnuts. As we age, sometimes one of the discs weakens and breaks open, releasing some of the "jelly." When the jelly bulges out, it can put pressure on a nearby nerve.Spinal deformities. This can include scoliosis and kyphosis.Spinal tumors. This type of surgery requires a high degree of precision to remove as much of a tumor as possible without injuring the spinal cord and nearby nerves.Spinal stenosis. In your spine, there are openings where nerves pass through. These openings can grow narrower, putting pressure on the nerve.

Cancer Surgery
Surgery is the oldest type of treatment for cancer, but that doesn't mean our methods are outdated. We use the latest minimally invasive techniques for cancer surgery whenever possible. What Is Cancer Surgery? In some cases, we use surgery to remove cancer, especially when it's found in just one part of the body. But sometimes surgery is a tool to diagnose cancer or to find out how far cancer has spread.Cancer surgery is sometimes used alone. But we often combine it with radiation, chemotherapy, immunotherapy or another form of treatment.

Message from CEO Victoria W. Bayless Tori Bayless I am pleased to announce that Luminis Health will offer 2 administrative fellowships for 2025-2026, and I encourage you to apply. From personal experience beginning my career as an administrative fellow, I appreciate the value of these programs. The fellowship is a one-year immersion into a complex health care system through substantial hands-on projects. This fellowship is an outstanding learning and career development opportunity for a recent health care master's graduate/candidate. Our fellows are able to apply their learning and continue to enrich their career in a vibrant and growing medical center. Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center (LHAAMC) and Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center (LHDCMC) formed a new, integrated health system in July 2019. Luminis Health operates 850 acute and sub-acute beds with $1.3B in revenue and close to $100M in community benefit. Grateful for its team of 6,800 employees, medical staff, and volunteers, Luminis Health continues to expand to meet community needs. The health system treats a region of more than 2M people with 32,900 hospital admissions, 31,100 inpatient admissions, 146,500 emergency department visits, 28,750 surgeries, and more than 1M outpatient visits. Luminis Health provides high-quality coordinated care across the region, increasing access to its services and improving health outcomes. I personally serve as mentor and preceptor to the fellows and assure that they not only have exposure to Presidents and senior executives across all functional areas of the health system, but also to governance through the Board of Trustees, Medical Executive Committees, and executive team meetings, as well as planning sessions and retreats. By receiving intensive exposure to health care decision-making, the fellow can apply concepts and skills learned in the classroom to a dynamic health care delivery system. This opportunity includes working on special projects aligned with our strategic vision, such as our annual operating plan and budget. I encourage you to review the information below. If you have any questions, please contact our current administrative fellows, Payten Harrison at [email protected] and Matthew Lubman at [email protected] . Want to learn more?
