Advanced Endoscopy at Luminis Health: A Regional Leader in Minimally Invasive GI Care
On This Page:

The advanced endoscopy program at Luminis Health provides patients with access to cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedures for complex digestive conditions involving the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, liver, and intestines.

Using high-definition imaging and specialized tools introduced through a flexible tube called an endoscope, our experts diagnose and treat conditions that traditionally required surgery. These innovative procedures offer faster recovery, fewer complications, and improved outcomes.

As a tertiary referral center for advanced endoscopy, we care for patients from across Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region with conditions that require advanced gastrointestinal expertise.

Why Luminis Health?

Our gastroenterology team includes providers with specialized training in performing advanced endoscopic procedures. Program highlights include:

Our Advanced Endoscopic Procedures

At Luminis Health, we offer advanced endoscopic procedures that are minimally invasive, meaning they help you avoid the risks of surgery when possible. Some of the procedures we perform include:

  • SpyGlass™ cholangioscopy for direct bile duct visualization
  • Complex bile duct stone removal
  • ERCP in altered surgical anatomy (e.g., gastric bypass)
  • Pancreatic duct stenting and pseudocyst management
  • Ampullectomy for ampullary lesions
  • Rescue therapy for failed ERCPs

  • Fine-needle aspiration and biopsy (FNA/FNB)
  • Drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts and walled-off necrosis
  • Celiac plexus neurolysis for cancer-related pain
  • EUS-guided access to the biliary and pancreatic ducts
  • EUS-guided gastrojejunostomy for gastric outlet obstruction

  • Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) for large or high-risk polyps
  • Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) for en-bloc resection of complex lesions
  • Ablation and endoscopic resection of Barrett’s esophagus

  • Endoscopic stent placement for blockages in the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, and colon

  • Minimally invasive treatment for fistulas, perforations, and leaks using advanced suturing and clipping techniques

  • Endoscopic pyloromyotomy for the treatment of severe, medication-resistant gastroparesis

  • Minimally invasive endoscopic procedure used to treat achalasia and certain other esophageal motility disorders.

  • Emergency and elective management of acute or chronic GI bleeding

  • Minimally invasive endoscopic procedure that reduces stomach volume by using sutures to create folds in the stomach lining, thereby limiting the amount of food the stomach can hold.

Why Would You Need an Advanced Endoscopic Procedure?

Your doctor may refer you to our program if traditional imaging or basic endoscopy reveals a condition that needs deeper evaluation or treatment. Common reasons include:

• Bile or pancreatic duct blockages

• Large or precancerous colon polyps

• Ongoing or unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding

• Post-surgical anatomy (e.g., Whipple procedure, Roux-en-Y, or Billroth)

• Complicated pancreatitis or pancreatic fluid collections

• Early GI cancers or Barrett’s esophagus

• Refractory gastroparesis
