Nationally recognized care. The American College of Cardiology recognizes Luminis Health for our commitment to hospital care for heart patients. We appear on the 2022 U.S. News & World Report list of “Best Hospitals."
Treatments recognized and awarded by the American Heart Association. The American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline® program awarded Luminis Health for outstanding performance and care when treating heart attack patients. We are one of only 25% of hospitals in the nation qualified to perform emergency cardiac catheterization.
Emergency life-saving heart attack care. The Maryland Institute of Emergency Medicine Services Systems designates Luminis Health a Certified Intervention Center for emergency heart attack care. This means we're the area's preferred hospital for this type of treatment. If you call 911 for a heart attack, we provide life-saving angioplasty within 90 minutes. We exceed Maryland state standards for this care.
A dedicated heart center. We offer a dedicated inpatient unit for people with heart conditions, as well as cardiac catheterization labs, a cardiovascular critical care unit and a cardiac rehabilitation center.
The latest technology for minimally invasive procedures. With advanced imaging, we can detect heart problems early — and we often treat them with minimally invasive procedures. That means small incisions, less pain and a quicker recovery for you.

Nationally Recognized Heart Care at Luminis Health

The American College of Cardiology awarded Luminis Health the 2024 Silver Performance Achievement Award for the Chest Pain - MI Registry. We were awarded for demonstrating sustained achievement of performance measures in treatment of acute myocardial infarction patients through the implementation of American College of Cardiology/American Heart Associates Clinical Guideline Recommendations.

The American College of Cardiology has recognized Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center for its demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients with chest pain. We were awarded the Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI in June 2024 based on a rigorous onsite evaluation of our staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

The Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services System (MIEMSS) has designated Luminis Health as a Cardiac Intervention Center (CIC). We were recognized for complying with state standards for receiving patients experiencing the most common type of heart attack, STEMI. Luminis Health is one of 28 hospitals in Maryland with this designation.

To be designated as a CIC, a hospital must:

Provide primary PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) to at least 75% of appropriate STEMI patients within 90 minutes of arrival
Provide primary PCI to appropriate STEMI patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Have enough staff to provide cardiac catheterization and coronary care unit services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Have a single call access system for STEMI patients
Participate in the County Hospital Alert Tracking System (CHATS) program

Luminis Health’s primary PCI program has met all the performance standards established by the Maryland Health Care Commission, allowing us to continue providing PCI services for four more years.

The American Heart Association recognized Luminis Health for our continued success in using the Get With The Guidelines program. We were recognized as part of the Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving Center - Gold Plus with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll for providing the most up-to-date, evidence-based care for patients with type 2 diabetes who are hospitalized with heart failure, heart attack or stroke.

Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center received the American College of Cardiology's NCDR Chest Pain - MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award. This award puts us among the top hospitals in the nation for heart attack care, demonstrating the team's continued excellence in providing the highest standard of care to heart attack patients.

Cardiology Treatments and Services

We're known for using the most advanced, state-of-the-art cardiac diagnostic procedures and treatments, such as:

Electrophysiology study. This testing identifies the reasons for an irregular heartbeat.
Electrocardiogram (EKG). EKG is a test to measure your heart's electrical signals.
Echocardiography. This is a heart ultrasound to see how your heart beats and pumps blood.
Treadmill stress test and nuclear stress testing. This testing looks at how your heart works during exercise.
Angiography. This is a special x-ray of the insides of your blood vessels.
Holter and event monitors. These wearable devices (which we provide) track your heart rhythm.
Cardiac catheterization, including advanced radial catheterization. These minimally invasive procedures allow your specialist to see inside your blood vessels.
Balloon angioplasty and stenting. These life-saving treatments open blocked vessels.
