Rubie Sue Jackson, MD, MPH is a fellowship-trained breast surgeon who joined Anne Arundel Medical Center in 2015 and serves as the Director of Clinical Research for the Rebecca Fortney Breast Center. She also has an academic appointment at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Jackson received a Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and received the Academic Achievement Award for scholastic performance (top graduating GPA). She attended The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health with a prestigious Sommer Scholar award, receiving her Master of Public Health. Dr. Jackson completed a general surgery residency at Georgetown University Hospital (receiving the Award for Academic Achievement) and a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She is board certified in general surgery. She has served on the research committee of the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) and is a member of the ASBrS and Society of Surgical Oncology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Jackson’s clinical interests include nipple-sparing mastectomy, oncoplastic lumpectomy, “hidden scar” lumpectomy, aesthetic flat closure, and nipple/breast re-sensation after mastectomy. Much of her research has focused on how ultrasound (sonogram) of the axilla (underarm) can be used to limit the extent of lymph node surgery. Her publications have appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Annals of Surgical Oncology, and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. She has presented her research at numerous national meetings and authored a textbook chapter on nipple-sparing mastectomy.
