David Afzal, DO, MSEd., is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine. He completed his residency training at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA. He went to the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA, and also received his masters of science in education in Health Promotion at Virginia Tech. Originally from Ellicott City, MD, he graduated from McDonogh, and went to St Mary’s College of Maryland in southern Maryland to get his bachelor of arts in Biology. Dr. Afzal practices modern evidence-based medicine. He enjoys educating his patients on all aspects of health. He has an open mind and prides himself on being non-judgmental. He wants the office to be a safe and comfortable environment for all. He treats people from all walks of life and lifestyles. His special interests include college student health, women’s health, breast health, LGBT primary care and body piercing aftercare. Gillian Lowe, MD joined Luminis Health Primary Care Edgewater after completion of a family medicine residency program at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2013. Exploring her interest in research, she screened and recruited patients for a variety of medical studies including detection of colon cancer at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She is a member of the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Lowe is board-certified in family medicine and has a particular interest in pediatric health.

Prior to establishing private practice, Dr. Sloan served as an internist with the Mid-Atlantic Physician Services and Group Health Association. Dr. Sloan is interested in enhancing community medicine; as well as, working with medical missions overseas. She has previously lectured with church groups on general internal medicine, e.g. diabetes, hypertension, etc. and served on a medical mission committee with a local church.
