He went to the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA, and also received his masters of science in education in Health Promotion at Virginia Tech. Originally from Ellicott City, MD, he graduated from McDonogh, and went to St Mary’s College of Maryland in southern Maryland to get his bachelor of arts in Biology. Dr. Afzal practices modern evidence-based medicine. He enjoys educating his patients on all aspects of health. He has an open mind and prides himself on being non-judgmental. He wants the office to be a safe and comfortable environment for all. He treats people from all walks of life and lifestyles. His special interests include college student health, women’s health, breast health, LGBT primary care and body piercing aftercare. Michelle Skinner, DO, is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. She joins Waugh Chapel Family Medicine from Harpers Ferry Family Medicine, part of University Healthcare Physicians in West Virginia. With a passion for education and quality patient care, she also trained resident physicians and medical students as an Assistant Professor for West Virginia University’s School of Medicine Eastern Division. Dr. Skinner received her medical degree from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, California and completed her residency training in family medicine at Williamsport Family Medicine in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. As an osteopathic physician, Dr. Skinner uses osteopathic manipulative treatments (the use of hands-on-care to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury) to help with a range of common musculoskeletal ailments including headaches, neck pain and back pain. In addition, she analyzes each patient’s posture, ergonomics and sleep position in order to focus attention on repetitive habits that are contributing to discomfort. Dr. Skinner is a current member of the American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American Academy of Family Physician, and the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.

After working in surgical nursing, he earned a master’s degree from Simmons University’s nurse practitioner program, allowing him to focus more on preventative medicine. Adam has worked as an adult primary care nurse practitioner for over two years with a diverse patient population. Born and raised in the Maryland area, Adam has done clinical work at a variety of local hospitals including Holy Cross Hospital, Adventist Healthcare White Oak Medical Center, Medstar Montgomery Medical Center, Children’s National Hospital, and other local primary care facilities. His position at Luminis Health gives him the opportunity to maintain his nursing passion and act as the patient’s advocate in a provider role. Outside of work, Adam enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, volunteering in his community, and engaging in activities such as hiking, boating, swimming, and singing. Dr. Kevin Carnahan was born and raised in Lebanon, Ohio, and attended medical school at Ohio University. He earned an associate degree in automotive technology, followed by a bachelor's and master's degree in biomedical engineering. Before moving to Maryland, Dr. Carnahan practiced medicine in Sandusky, Ohio. In addition to his medical career, Dr. Carnahan enjoys carpentry, woodworking, architecture, design, sailing, and spending time outdoors with his wife and their dogs. During medical school, he lived on a small sailboat on Lake Erie for two years. After graduating, he and his wife spent time sailing through the Bahamas.
