Teymi-Elise DeShay Herring, MPH, RDN, CDCES, is a registered dietitian nutritionist and diabetes care and education specialist. She earned a master’s in public health nutrition from the Loma Linda University School of Public Health. Teymi has spent time working in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and private health programs. She also worked as a public health nutritionist with the City of Long Beach, CA and as a didactic program in dietetics program director and dietitian guiding students and seeing patients on a university campus. With her keen interest in guiding patients with diabetes who are ready to make changes in their own health trajectory, she utilizes patient-focused coaching sessions designed to support your goals and desires to improve life, nutrition, health and prevent disease progression. She has witnessed firsthand improvements in patient biomarkers and motivation and most importantly, quality of life. Education is essential in fostering behavioral changes and Herring believes anyone can improve his or her own health with her help. Music is one way Teymi, her husband and their two daughters enjoy time together. Teymi plays violin with various ensembles and orchestras in her spare time and teaches beginning violin to young learners.

Debra Piccirillo, SLP, is a speech-language pathologist with over 30 years of clinical and management experience. With both an undergraduate and graduate degree from Clarion University in Pennsylvania, and certification and training in PROMPT therapy from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, she specializes in working with concussion and traumatic brain injury patients of all ages. Some of Debra’s accomplishments include: Having works published in “Epilepsy Research” in 1993; receiving the President’s Award for Excellence from the New Jersey Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 1998; and presenting at the American Speech-Language Hearing Association’s National Convention in 2016. Working hard to build patient-family partnerships, educate patients and collaborate with physicians and other medical professionals, she’s a steadfast advocate for ensuring comprehensive and qualitative care for her patients. Dr. Hessler attended medical school at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and completed her general surgery residency at the University of Maryland in 2019. She went on to complete a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Foregut and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Wisconsin Madison in 2020. After several years of private practice at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Dr. Hessler joined the Acute Care Surgery team in 2025. She is board-certified in general surgery and an active participant in student and resident education.

Melissa Strege, PA

Melissa Strege is a Physician Assistant in our Pre-Anesthesia Testing department in Annapolis. Melissa provides preoperative history and physical examinations for surgical and anesthesia clearance. This role ensures patient safety is a top priority when undergoing anesthesia for surgery. Melissa reviews labs, testing and EKG reports and explains the results to patients in a way they can understand. She provides patients with needed resources and referrals to optimize care. Melissa communicates with the patients care team including primary care providers, surgeons and specialists. Melissa enjoys helping ease patients concerns about surgery. Melissa created a tip sheet and video for patients to calm anxiety around surgical procedures. Many patients leave the PAT appointment feeling more prepared for surgery and understand the next steps they can take for a better recovery. Melissa has been with Luminis Health since 2008 bringing a wealth of knowledge to our PAT department having practiced as a Hospitalist in her previous roles at Luminis Health. She continues to work closely with interdisciplinary teams including anesthesiologists, physicians, and advanced practice providers.
