What to Expect at Luminis Health for Each Trimester of Pregnancy

There's a lot that goes on during your pregnancy and at Luminis Health, we believe in taking it step by step. For each trimester, we'll give you a booklet with worksheets, educational resources and lists. (From healthy foods to what to pack in your birthing bag, we love our lists!)

At every stage of your pregnancy, your health care team empowers you with knowledge. This way, you won't feel overwhelmed with information all at once, but you'll get what you need when you need it. It's our goal to help you feel more confident in your pregnancy. And why shouldn't you? You're glowing. You got this!

What to Expect

Here's what you can expect in each trimester of your pregnancy.

People in your life might not know you're pregnant, but there's a lot happening in the womb. Your little star grows from tinier than a poppy seed to the size of a peach. Your fetus's organs form, including their brain and heart. By the end of the first trimester, your baby has fingers and toes.

Your Luminis Health provider takes blood tests to determine your blood type and looks for any issues we need to treat. We monitor the growth and heart rate of your little bean (or kiwi or peach, depending on the week!). We'll also talk to you about optional tests for genetic conditions and physical abnormalities at an early stage. Some parents choose these tests to put their minds at ease.

In your Centering Pregnancy sessions, you'll get to share your excitement with other parents-to-be who are due around the same time as you. With your pregnancy instructor, you'll discuss healthy eating for two, managing stress and more.

Your baby is already growing hair, and you'll start to feel those kicks and flips! Does it feel real yet?! This is a great time to begin gathering the supplies you'll need for your nursery.

Along with the joy and preparations, you might have some unpleasant symptoms as your baby grows and your uterus expands. These can include back aches, heartburn and minor swelling.

In Centering Pregnancy, we'll talk about which changes are normal, and when you should seek care. We'll also monitor your blood pressure, blood sugar, baby's growth and more. You may opt for an anatomy ultrasound to check in on the little cutie.

The baby's almost here! These months are all about your baby getting bigger and stronger for the great, big world. They're even hiccupping and practicing breathing at this point!

Since some babies arrive early, we'll talk about the signs of labor early on in this trimester. We'll help you tell the difference between Braxton Hicks contractions (or "practice" contractions) and the real thing.

Now is the time to pack your hospital bag and install your infant car seat. (Check this trimester's list to see where you can get your car seat safety-checked for free!)

If you're dealing with high blood pressure, diabetes, fetus growth concerns or any other complications, we'll follow you even more closely. You may need extra appointments and ultrasounds during this time. If needed to keep you and your baby safe, we may change your medications or induce birth.

With your Centering Pregnancy group, you'll talk about your birthing options, breastfeeding and infant care. Before you know it, you'll be meeting for coffee and play dates in the park! Speaking of baby, check our online tool to find out which pediatricians are taking on new clients.
